GOP leaders hopeful Trump staff shake-up triggers new momentum

If you thought the old Donald Trump campaign was wild and insane, just wait for the new Trump campaign now that Breitbart's Steve Bannon has taken over as chief executive. "I believe Breitbart became Trump Pravda so that Steve Bannon could be the conductor on the Trump Train".

But the Hillary Clinton campaign and its associated PACs have been very busy, with the Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne TV market ranking number one in the entire nation in ad spending for the race with $8.1 million in ads. But paths to general-election victory involve winning an increasingly daunting number of such voters, in such battlegrounds as Florida, Pennsylvania and the post-industrial Midwest, where his polls are going the wrong way. I don't want to change.

She acknowledged that they did lose some Republican votes, but also said that it is not like these Republicans are going to go and vote for Clinton.

"After several failed attempts to pivot into a more serious and presidential mode, Donald Trump has made a decision to double down on his most small, nasty and divisive instincts by turning his campaign over to someone who is best known for running a so-called news site", he said referring to Bannon's oversight of Breitbart News, "that peddles divisive, at times racist, anti-Muslim, anti-Semetic conspiracy theories". And Bannon stands pretty much alone in continuing to think that foisting Sarah Palin onto the voting public was a good idea.

But Trump has repeatedly said he is resistant to change and reiterated that Tuesday in an interview with a local news station in Wisconsin.

Hillary Clinton's campaign manager on Wednesday excoriated Donald Trump's latest campaign hires - an unusually aggressive attack aimed at staffers from a team that has been keeping a low profile as its rival has self-immolated.

But sources close to the campaign told CNN that while Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates will remain on staff, they will return to their Washington, D.C. base largely sidelined. "If you look at Stephen Bannon and what they've built at Breitbart, it's win at all costs", Corey Lewandowski, the former Trump campaign manager who was sacked two months ago in a previous reshuffle, told CNN on Wednesday.

In tapping Bannon for a top campaign role, Trump is doubling down on his outsider appeal rather than appeasing more traditional Republicans.

It's the campaign's second reset in as many months.

Bannon's relationship with Trump has also drawn scrutiny about the site's editorial independence.

Heading into the home stretch, though, she'll have to gamble that voters will destest Trump more than they dislike her.

"Everybody talks about, "Oh well, you're gonna pivot". And we - you know, you need people ready for battle, at least willing to leave it all on the field".

Lewandowski, who is now a CNN political commentator, has continued to informally advise Trump, according to sources familiar with their ongoing conversations.

Internal finger pointing abounded in recent days as recent media accounts have portrayed a campaign in disarray and at-times feuding with frustrated GOP leaders.

Donald Trump's new campaign manager promised on Thursday the volatile Republican presidential candidate would stick to a more disciplined and uplifting message to voters in the final dash to Election Day without crimping his freewheeling style.

Manafort, in his memo, insisted the campaign is in a strong position to win.
