Agency says deported man had no special status

The DACA policy, launched by the Obama administration in 2012, protects persons - often called "DREAMers" - brought into the USA during their youth from deportation and provides them with the right to work legally.

Announced by the Obama administration in June 2012, DACA allows eligible immigrant youth who were brought to the children to live and work here temporarily.

So it's no surprise he had little sympathy for Juan Manuel Montes, a 23-year-old who came to the the age of 9 and was detained and deported by the Border Patrol, first reported by USA Today on Tuesday.

Donald Trump has yet to touch the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), implemented during the Obama administration to allow protection against deportation for illegal immigrants. He said he left his wallet in a friend's auto, but was told by agents he could not retrieve his ID or proof of his DACA status. Montes added that he was prevented from retrieving his documents and was instead sent back to Mexico within three hours.

Juan Manuel Montes, 23, is believed to be the first DACA recipient to be deported, an unprecedented move that activists argue proves Dreamers are also targeted for deportation under the administration.

Since taking office, Trump has followed through on his campaign pledge to crack down on illegal immigration by signing executive orders to step up enforcement against the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. The new policy calls for expanding the criteria for detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants and hiring thousands of new agents.

While it has been good news that Trump has failed to live up to some of his other promises, like repealing Obamacare and enacting a Muslim ban, this is one broken promise that will tear apart innocent families and hurt the country in the process. Their understanding is that the protection was current, according to advocacy group United We Dream. According to USA Today, Montes climbed the border fence into the US and was questioned and sent back again to Mexico.

USA Today noted that Montes was not a "poster child" for DACA. He is now staying with an aunt and uncle in Western Mexico while lawyers file a lawsuit to uncover the details of the deportation. "We will be talking to the attorney general", Trump said.

"They detained me, they took me to a center, they asked me a lot of questions, and I signed a lot of papers", he said.

"In addition, he has a conviction for theft for which he received probation".

"Juan Manuel was funneled across the border without so much as a piece of paper to explain why or how", said Nora A. Preciado, a staff attorney at the National Immigration Law Center, which is representing Montes.

"There I worked and studied at the same time".

Montes said he couldn't understand anything he was signing and was not given any copies. "I liked it there more than here".

Trump hasn't indicated since then that he'd roll back protections on so-called DREAMers, or DACA enrollees, under the program. "We'll be coming out with policy on that over the next period of four weeks".
