Only Steve Knows: Police Baffled by Facebook Video Killing

Williams said the Cleveland police had received over 400 tips regarding Stephens' whereabouts.

Stephens killed himself in Pennsylvania on Tuesday as he was being chased by state troopers.

The authorities had been searching for Stephens for two days when local police spotted him in Erie County, Pennsylvania Tuesday morning.

Officers responded and engaged in a short pursuit, after which they stopped the vehicle.

The US man wanted for killing an elderly man in OH and then posting a video of the murder on Facebook fatally shot himself on Tuesday after a brief pursuit in neighbouring Pennsylvania, police said.

PBS NewsHour will update this story as it develops.

In the video, which appears shaky, Stephens gets out of his auto and appears to randomly target Godwin who is holding a plastic shopping bag.

Police have yet to issue a statement addressing whether or not they believe he was telling the truth.

He was wanted on an aggravated murder charge in the shooting death of a 74-year-old man who was picking up aluminum cans on Sunday after spending Easter with his family.

The ex-girlfriend of suspected Cleveland Facebook murderer Steve Stephens met and embraced loved ones of the man Stephens allegedly shot and killed on Tuesday, hours after the fugitive ended his own life while on the run.

Officials in the OH city said they were looking for Steve Stephens in connection with the one confirmed killing.

Facebook said Stephens' account was suspended within 23 minutes of the murder video being reported, but admitted it needs to "do better".

Lane said the last time she talked to Stephens was Saturday night and he told her he had quit his job and was moving out of state.

"We have a lot of work and we will keep doing all we can to prevent tragedies like this from happening", Mr Zuckerberg said.

Police said it appeared Godwin was chosen at random.
