Nintendo Switch sales reach 2.74m within 2 months

The Switch's most popular game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has also been very popular and has sold over 3.84 million units across the globe.

An additional 10 million Switch sales make up the company's forecast for the following year, a number which puts the Switch on comparable footing to first-year performances from the PlayStation 4 (14.4m) and Xbox One (10m.) in 2013/14. The company's fiscal year earnings are up, and thanks to both the Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the figures are some of the best the company's seen since 2011, when the original Wii was still a shiny object in console-dom's firmament.

As part of the report, available to read here, Nintendo also revealed that it had sold 5.46m units of software during the period, ending 31 March.

On the portable front, 3DS game sales were strong, Nintendo said, specifically calling out Pokemon Sun and Moon, which have now combined to sell 15.44 million units. A dramatic sales decrease was of course expected, given the launch of the Switch.

Nintendo's goal is to ship 35 million Switch games in the next 12 months, and with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe out tomorrow, and Splatoon 2, ARMS, and Super Mario Odyssey to come there seems a good chance they might.

The company anticipates selling another 10 million Switch machines in the fiscal year that ends in March 2018. Earlier this month market research firm NPD group announced that the Japanese game maker had sold 906,000 units of the device.

The Nintendo Switch, the company's latest console, has been flying off the shelf. They came up very short with the Wii U and its abysmal sales, and chose to cut the cord early and start fresh with a new console offering new innovations. The company's stock price has risen 9.4% since news of its sales record broke.

Amiibo shipped 9.1m figures and 9.3m cards during the year. In addition, we will maintain favorable conditions surrounding Nintendo Switch by providing a continuous stream of appealing third-party titles across varying genres.

The Nintendo Switch has been out for over a month now and it's still going strong. Sales were down slightly, and operating income slightly lower, but ordinary profit jumped 75% from the last fiscal year.

The simplest explanation behind the Nintendo Switch's unexpected popularity?
