Clinton blames misogyny, FBI, Russia, herself for 2016 loss

Hillary Clinton on Tuesday (May 2) laid the blame for her defeat in last year's White House race squarely at the feet of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and Russian Federation, saying their interference had "scared off" voters. She would go on to name Russian Federation and FBI Director James Comey's letter about discovering more Clinton emails with 11 days left in the campaign.

A significant portion of the interview was spent discussing possible reasons behind Clinton's loss in the presidential election with Clinton pointing the finger, if not by name, at Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The evidence for that intervening event is, I think, compelling, persuasive", Clinton said of the resulting effects on the outcome of the election.

Wolf, after covering Hillary Clinton for more than 15 years and looking at many of her public appearances, I found this to be perhaps the most astonishing Hillary Clinton appearance I've ever seen. Clinton added that misogyny also "played a role" in how the election turned out.

Hillary Clinton didn't acknowledge Trump's win and how she "missed the mood of the country", as CNN political analysts highlight. "He certainly interfered in our election and it was clear he interfered to hurt me and help our opponent", she said. "I was the candidate, I was the person who was on the ballot". Clinton said she's been going through the "painful" process of reliving the 2016 contest while writing a book.

"On equal pay, a number of cities and states have said, 'You know, one of the problems about equal pay is when you hire people, you say, "What was your last pay?"' So if you're a young woman and you've been underpaid before and you say what your pay is, then a slight bump looks fair, but it's not because you've got built-in inequity", Clinton said.

Still, she said she was proud of her staff and the volunteers who contributed to her campaign, which she acknowledged "wasn't a flawless campaign".

"What a coincidence. You just can't make this stuff up", she said.

She reminded the enthusiastic audience packed with women that she ultimately earned three million more votes than Mr Trump.

Amanpour asked Clinton about Trump's recent statement that he'd be honored to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un under the right circumstances to which Clinton remarked, "Negotiations are critical, but have to be party of broader strategy".

Hillary Clinton said a key to creating opportunities in under-served areas is making sure everyone has access to modern infrastructure like high-speed internet.

Clinton won the popular vote by roughly 2 percentage points, but lost the electoral vote.

Clinton gave her inspirational speech in a room full of 1000 people - mostly women - including fellow fighter Meryl Streep.
