As we've previously reported, organizers have also increased security measures, including bag searches, at the convention center.

According to KPNX News, Mathew Sterling tried to enter the Phoenix Convention Center, where Phoenix Comicon was being held, with three armed handguns, a shotgun, and several knives and swords.

He was taken into custody without incident after a brief struggle with police, according to Fortune.

Officers working at the venue were alerted about noon to a suspicious man making threats against police on social media and the postings included photos of officers working the event, Fortune said.

Exhibitor Hall vendors will still be selling props and simulated weapons.

The name of the man wasn't immediately released. The police took him away from the venue and was questioned at police headquarters.

Starting on Friday, these will be the only guns permitted at Phoenix Comicon 2017. However, this did not seem to occur on Thursday, with the armed man slipping through into the convention while fully armed. "At this time, there is no evidence to cause investigators to believe this is anything more than an isolated incident and not part of a grander scheme". Police said no prop weapons will be allowed at the event, which began Thursday. Police said he was wearing body armor.

Throughout the rest of the Phoenix Comicon, there will be "extra security" as well as "additional screening".

Because of the heightened security, entry lines into the event will likely be slower.
