Iran slams United States arms deal with Saudi 'dangerous terrorists'

Kuwait's emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, an ally of Saudi Arabia, congratulated President Rouhani on his re-election.

Iran's newly re-elected President Hassan Rouhani on Monday dismissed his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump's summit with Arab leaders in Saudi Arabia this weekend as "just a show".

"Once again, by his repetitive and baseless claims about Iran, the American president ... tried to encourage the countries of the region to purchase more arms by spreading Iranophobia", said Bahram Qassemi, a foreign ministry spokesman. Trump has threatened to try to renegotiate the deal.

He said on Monday in Jerusalem that shared concern about Iran was driving Israel and many Arab states closer, calling Tehran a real threat in the region, Reuters reported.

Rouhani decisively won a presidential election on Friday, securing another four-year term. They also fear more a confrontational policy with the United States and Saudi Arabia. He also called the Saudi summit a "show-off" convention that "will not have any political and practical values".

This is all a showing of the Saudi's strong support to Trump after the ties reached a low point during the Obama Administration, which reached out to Iran with the signing of the Nuclear Accord. The US had done well to reauthorize waivers from nuclear related sanctions before the elections in Iran.

"I hope it can settle so that we can have a better judgement about those in Washington", said Rouhani. At the same time, the USA imposed new sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile program and said it was continuing to review Iran's adherence to the 2015 nuclear accord.

"Our missiles are for peace, not for attack", he added.

"The Islamic Republic is ready for cooperation at all levels with other countries, including France, to fight against terrorism and to resolve the Syrian crisis", Rouhani told Macron, according to IRNA.

"Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani was the first one who encouraged me past year to run for the 12th round of the presidential election".

Mixed reactions greeted President Hassan Rouhani's landslide reelection victory in Iran over the weekend.

Voskanyan recalled that during a visit to Armenia in 2016 December, Rouhani said that Iran regards Armenia as the most important country of a project created to link the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea. "The U.S. leaders should know that whenever we need a missile test because of a technical aspect, we will test".

In a tweet following the speech, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif accused Trump of ignoring Iran's democratic credentials to "milk" Saudi Arabia of billions of dollars. "When they imposed sanctions on us, they made a mistake", he said.
