Trump warns North Korea's missiles will get better

North Korea readies another nuclear test

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - President Donald Trump said after North Korea's latest failed rocket launch that communist leader Kim Jong-Un will eventually develop better missiles, and "we can't allow it to happen".

The Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarine is now docked at a naval base in South Korea's Busan, where it was recently joined by the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier group, the Daily Mail reported. "I would be honored to do it", Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg.

KARL: The president didn't just say that he would be open to meeting with Kim Jong Un under the right circumstances, he said he would be "honored" to meet with him.

White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said Trump would speak to the leaders of Singapore and Thailand on Sunday, after North Korea test-launched another missile that Washington and Seoul said was unsuccessful but which drew widespread global condemnation. "Clearly [the] conditions are not there right now", Spicer said.

"I don't see this happening anytime soon", Spicer added.

Trump said he had "no idea" whether Kim was sane or not, but said the North Korean leader had faced a formidable challenge in taking over the country at a reported age of 27 after his father's death in 2011.

Trump told CBS on Sunday that if the North carried out a sixth nuclear test he "would not be happy".

American President Donald Trump has said a "major, major conflict" with North Korea is possible over its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, while China said last week the situation on the Korean peninsula could escalate or slip out of control.

Trump has stepped up pressure to prevent Kim from obtaining the capability to hit North America with a nuclear weapon, and he's threatened to act unilaterally if China does not do more to curb its neighbor's activities.

"I'd like to say they're very safe".

As part of that effort, he invited Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to meet in Washington, a move human rights organizations condemned but which the White House defended as necessary for countering North Korea. North Korea test-fired a missile Saturday, an operation that the US military said failed when it quickly blew up above North Korean territory.

Trump told CBS News that any trade disputes with China take a back seat to securing its cooperation on North Korea. "I just don't want to discuss it". Trump said that if such a thing were to occur he "will not be happy", that China wouldn't be happy either, and he said "we'll see" to a military response.

That means, McMaster said, working to enforce current United Nations sanctions and perhaps ratcheting them up. But in an interview Sunday with Fox News, McMaster denied that suggestion.

Officials from the North, meanwhile, have escalated their hyperbolic rhetoric against the US - including warning of a "super mighty pre-emptive strike" and threatening nuclear war.
