DUP agrees to principles of 'confidence and supply' deal with Tories

May Will Quit If She Loses Majority Source Tells LBC

May called the election early with the aim of shoring up support for the Conservatives ahead of the country's crucial Brexit negotiations, but the move has clearly backfired.

After the election result, Foster told Radio Ulster: "It's too soon to say what we're going to do yet".

Mrs May was working on a Cabinet reshuffle, although the election result makes it less likely she will risk alienating colleagues by making wholesale changes as she can not afford to have disgruntled former ministers sniping at her from the backbenches.

"She does not have personal credibility anymore". - May's top team of ministers to meet May has confirmed five of her most senior ministers will remain in their pre-election roles, but has yet to announce whether there will be any changes to other jobs within her top team of ministers, known as the cabinet.

The party said Saturday that Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill have quit.

Corbyn's leadership refashioned the party, making it more about democratic socialism, pushing redistributive policies to deal with rampant inequalities, taxing the most-wealthy few to benefit the many.

Former Conservative finance minister George Osborne, sacked by May when she became prime minister previous year, told the BBC: "Theresa May is a dead woman walking".

Party managers turned to their allies in Northern Ireland, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), who made two gains in Thursday's election to give them 10 seats at Westminster.

Such an agreement would see the Northern Irish party's 10 MPs support the Conservatives on crucial votes when Parliament returns next week.

London's neutrality in Northern Ireland is key to the delicate balance of power in the province once plagued by decades of unrest.

A deal between the government and the DUP could also unsettle the precarious balance between Northern Ireland's British loyalist and Irish nationalist parties.

The DUP, although it wants to leave the European Union, will insist on keeping the single market that allows the free flow of goods across the UK's border with Ireland.

Theresa May has been warned she will have to re-think her Brexit negotiating strategy following her humiliation at the ballot box.

European Council President Donald Tusk has warned there was "no time to lose" in starting talks, after May started the two-year countdown to Brexit on March 29.

The poll, conducted by YouGov for The Sunday Times, shows the Labour leader obliterating the 39-point lead Ms May had on the same question when she called the general election.

He echoed Scotland's First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, who in the wake of the election result said the Tories must abandon a "reckless" pursuit of a hard Brexit.

"I told her that there were a number of things that count to me more than the party".

"One of them is country, one of the others is LGBTI rights".

As the exit poll came in on June 8th, it had become increasingly clear that #Theresa May's decision to call for a snap general election was one of the worst decisions in her political career.

The Labour party, along with Momentum, the grassroots organisation of Corbyn supporters, galvanised the party's 500,000 strong members into taking to the streets, the phones and the internet to campaign for Labour.

But Graham Brady, who chairs the influential 1922 Committee of backbench Conservative lawmakers, said a "self-indulgent" party leadership campaign would only cause more uncertainty.

"May fights to remain PM", said the front page of the Daily Telegraph, while the Times of London said: "May stares into the abyss".
