Empty NYC transit bus rolls backward down street, hits church, cars

The MTA bus crashed into at least ten parked cars before it finally came to a stop after it hit a church

New York City police say the driver of the bus got out of the vehicle at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bushwick, but left it in neutral.

One person was hurt when an empty MTA bus rolled backward in Brooklyn overnight, setting off a chain reaction that damaged several parked vehicles before coming to a stop against the outside of a church. No passengers were on board the Queens No. 58 route, from Ridgewood to Flushing.

St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church suffered only superficial damages, but the van, which belonged to Iglesia Pentecostal Church across the street, "is damaged completely", according to Rev. Jose Quintana. The reason the bus started to roll is under investigation, but authorities were looking into whether she forgot to set the parking brake or it if was set and simply malfunctioned. A maroon van for a neighboring house of worship was also busted in the wreck. The bus then proceeded to slam into ten cars before hitting a church, according to a report by local NY station WNBC.

A pedestrian was injured and was taken to Wyckoff Hospital for treatment.

At the end of the footage, a loud bang is heard as the MTA bus hits a auto but keeps going.
