Ferrari ends long wait for victory at Monaco GP

"But I don't think it was orchestrated". I might be in the way, I might need to give Valtteri that upper hand. "And this is the new reality at the moment".

FERRARI has a "potential cold war" brewing within its team after Sebastian Vettel beat Kimi Raikkonen in a controversial victory at the Monaco GP, according to Formula 1 newspaper experts.

But it was shrouded in controversy.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff also played down any talks of Ferrari favouring Vettel over Raikkonen and instead admitted that they were the quicker cars and congratulated them on their one-two finish at Monaco.

Hamilton has a 29-point lead over his teammate Valtteri Bottas despite finishing three places below the Finn, but has made it clear that he will not ask his team to throw their weight behind him in a bid to have an advantage in the title race. But when you are controlling the Monaco Grand Prix from the front in the fastest auto, you have to be some dunderhead to pit the leader and turn him into the runner-up.

"Valtteri's doing a great job, I don't now feel that we have to favour one over the other".

"There are so many different things we need to look into, to try and understand why one vehicle can make the tyres work and the other cannot".

"There might be some things along the way positioning-wise which, at some stage, become valuable". "I really am happy", he said. "So they are going to be pushing everything to make sure Sebastian will maximise on all of his weekends".

As such Vettel now leads the race for the World title by 25 points ahead of Hamilton, who was P7 on the day. "First of all, they deserved the win, they had the quickest auto out there so as a team result, the one and two is good and congratulations from our side". "But the underdog is the one that people want to see winning".

"As matter of fact, I think we have been since the beginning of the season". He dropped to the second place after changing of tires, but as we said some saw a conspiracy in this situation.

While Bottas enjoyed an exceptional weekend in Sochi, Hamilton struggled to get performance out of the Pirelli tyres and finished fourth. We still believe we can win this thing, 25 points is a long way away.

"It's clear to me that Ferrari have chosen their number one driver", Hamilton said. It is very hard for the leading auto on track to get jumped by the second vehicle unless the team decide to favour the other auto.

He added: "The Ferrari seems to work everywhere so these next 14 races are going to be very hard. We just need to make sure we are ahead of them so we are not in the same scenario as we are today", the Briton explained.
