Five Camden tower blocks being evacuated over fire safety fears

A detective involved in the case said'The working conditions are difficult and distressing

"I have made clear to the company that I will expect them to replace any item without delay if it is established that there is a risk in using them".

Whirlpool (WHR) said in a statement that 64,000 Hotpoint units carrying the model numbers FF175BP and FF175BG had been manufactured between March 2006 and July 2009, according to CNN. One tribute, from a firefighter in the Kensington and Chelsea borough read: "20th floor, we tried. we're sorry".

One shirt bearing the London Ambulance Service logo said: "We refuse to forget you".

Investigators have also found that materials used on Grenfell Tower's exterior failed safety tests.

In its most detailed briefing yet on the criminal investigation, the Metropolitan Police on Friday confirmed residents' suspicions that the inferno at Grenfell was touched off by a refrigerator fire.

"The NZ situation for building fire safety was different to the United Kingdom which relies heavily on passive-fire [measures] such as solid construction to limit rapid spread of fire and smoke".

Earlier Friday, police said they were considering filing manslaughter charges in the Grenfell incident.

The detective superintendent also said she is anxious that the authorities might not have a true sense of how many people were in the building, in part because people who lived there or knew someone who did might be fearful of having their immigration status reviewed.

To make sure everyone comes forward, London Mayor Sadiq Khan pledged to seek an amnesty for people who may have been living in the public housing block illegally.

Teacher Kim Price, who lives in Blashford Tower with her 14-year-old son, said: "I really don't know what to do, I'm so scared right now".

British police investigating the fire at Grenfell Tower in west London in which 79 people are believed to have died say the blaze started in a fridge freezer.

Cladding and insulation encasing the building did not pass any fire safety tests, she added, increasing concern the 24-storey block's facade accelerated the blaze's spread.

Problems have so far been identified in 14 buildings in London, Manchester and elsewhere in England, it added.

Asked if the insulation and aluminium tiles used were acceptable for such buildings, McCormack told reporters: "No they're not".

"At the moment they haven't done it and they are saying they will knock on everyone's doors when they are ready".

The panels were apparently produced in different grades making it different to identify precisely which material may have been used in specific cases, she said.
