Trump acknowledges for first time he's under investigation

The FBI will not make former FBI Director James Comey's memos on President Donald Trump public because they are part of an awaiting or potential law enforcement proceeding, according to reports, Friday.

The Post reported that the obstruction of justice investigation of the president began days after James Comey was sacked as the FBI Director on May 9.

Mueller, a former FBI director who was named special counsel for the Russian Federation investigation after Comey was sacked, is investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Kremlin officials in a bid to tilt the 2016 election in his favour.

This morning, Trump said via his favorite means of communication that he is being investigated by the man who told him to fire the FBI Director. His tweet about a "WITCH HUNT" conducted by "bad" people is just a Trumpian version of what appears to be the official White House line - that this is somehow a partisan attempt to delegitimize the Trump presidency. According to the Post, Mueller plans to interview both officials soon, and also plans to question Richard Ledgett, who until recently held the No. 2 job at the NSA.

He had written a memorandum to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, criticising Mr Comey about the way in which he handled the Russian Federation investigation.

Trump may be referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who in a memo to Trump raised concerns over Comey's performance.

And if Rosenstein and Brand were both out of the picture, responsibility for the investigation would fall to Dana Boente, the acting head of the department's national security division and the current U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. And Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized his use of Twitter, particularly amid the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

A White House official said Friday's tweetstorm is a sign Trump is "taking matters into his own hands" - the latest example of how he thinks he is the best person to deliver his message.

Trump did not directly address the allegations that he is being probed for possibly obstructing justice - a potentially impeachable offense.

She was appointed to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight board in 2012 by President Obama, then appointed to the associate attorney general position by Trump.

Comey told Congress last week that before being sacked, Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into his former national security advisor, Mike Flynn, who was forced to quit for lying about his links to Moscow.

Mr Comey told a Senate panel last week he believed Mr Trump fired him to undermine the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Russian Federation probe.

Trump also trained his fire on one-time rival Hillary Clinton.
