Trump confirms he is being investigated over Comey firing

President Trump now under investigation for possible obstruction of justice, WAPO reports

Mueller is now leading the investigation into whether Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump and other officials from his team have long denied that there was any coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, suggesting that the investigations amount to a "witch hunt". A day later, Mr Rosenstein appointed Mr Mueller, who was at the helm of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the September 11 attacks, as special counsel.

"US President Donald Trump today appeared to confirm that he was being probed for firing the FBI chief and described it as a "witch hunt", as he asserted that there was no proof of his "collusion with the Russians" even after seven months of investigation".

Earlier this week, the investigation led by Mueller appeared to move closer to Trump.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was "increasingly concerned" that Trump will fire both Mueller and Rosenstein.

"That is a great, great team of complete professionals, so let's let him do his job", former independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who investigated President Bill Clinton in the 1990s, told ABC News. "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office".

Trump also attacked the media Friday morning.

Allegations Kushner's finances are being studied as part of the investigation come after it was reported last month the team behind the probe were examining meetings he had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and a Russian banking executive late past year during the presidential transition.

President Donald Trump acknowledged on Friday that he is personally under investigation as part of a widening probe into alleged Russian meddling in last year's U.S. presidential race and possible collusion by his campaign, an inquiry that has cast a shadow over his five months in office.

ABC News reported Friday that Rosenstein has privately acknowledged he may need to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation but has yet to seek a formal opinion on the matter. Add all of that on top of Rosenstein's cryptic and unprecedented warning to the American people about "anonymous allegations", and things are looking shady all around. But a department official said no one asked for the statement and Rosenstein acted on his own. Comey later revealed that he orchestrated a disclosure of details about conversations with Trump to prompt the appointment of a special counsel.

The White House has denied any collusion, and Trump has repeatedly complained about the probe, saying Democrats can not accept his election win. Mr Mueller has reportedly already scheduled interviews with several senior intelligence officials. But Rosenstein, too, may ultimately have to hand off oversight given his role in Trump's decision to fire Comey. If Rosenstein were out of the picture, responsibility for overseeing Mueller's investigation - and deciding his fate - would fall to Rachel Brand, the department's associate attorney general.

Trump's tweet Friday reflected the first official confirmation that he is being investigated by the special counsel for the reasons he fired Comey last month.

As the legal rope has tightened, Trump's allies have gone on the offensive, questioning Mueller's credibility and floating the idea he may be fired.

The transition order came the same day that Vice President Mike Pence's confirmed that he had hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.

Through a spokesman, Trump's personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz, blasted The Post's report, though he stopped short of denying it.

Cohen has worked for Trump since the mid-2000s and was active in the campaign.
