Trump Might Give Back Russian Diplomatic Compounds

Jared Kushner's uncle Murray's company KRE reportedly used the White House adviser's image in a pitch to investors

Indeed, the compounds are now vacant because President Barack Obama's administration believed they were "used by Russian personnel for intelligence-related purposes" in the election, as President Obama explained in a statement issued December 29 when he closed the buildings on 24 hours' notice.

"The dialogue between Russian Federation and the U.S.is now free from the ideology that characterized it under the Barack Obama administration".

The United States has reached no agreements with Russia, the State Department said Wednesday night in response to reports that the Trump administration was considering returning two Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States that the Obama administration shut down a year ago.

President Obama ordered Russian to abandon the compounds on December 29, the same day his administration announced the expulsion of almost three dozen alleged "intelligence operatives" amid lingering concerns involving Moscow's role in last year's White House race.

Moscow did not receive any official information from Washington on the return of Russian diplomatic properties in the U.S., Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Thursday.

The Trump administration was initially going to link returning the compounds to having Russian Federation permit renewal of construction on a new American consulate in St. Petersburg, according to a report by The Washington Post. The Post reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told top Russian diplomats last month that the return of the compounds no longer hinged on completing the consulate. "That's why they kicked out 35 diplomats who may have been spies". US media reported earlier in the day that both the US Congress and Federal Bureau of Investigation were looking into whether Sessions and Kislyak met at Trump's campaign event in April 2016. Russian Federation had barred the USA from continuing work on the consulate in 2014 after the US imposed sanctions on Russian Federation. The Kremlin has opposed the project since 2014, when the USA issued sanctions related to Ukraine.

A former adviser to Obama told The Post that they had "no intention" of returning the compounds to Russian Federation.

It was later revealed that future National Security Adviser Michael Flynn discussed potentially lifting the sanctions with Kislyak during the transition.
