Trump's friend says he is considering sacking Russian Federation investigation special counsel

The Department of Justice appointed Robert Mueller to take over the Russian Federation investigation in May after the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax Media and friend of Donald Trump, floated the notion on Monday that the President might dismiss special counsel Mueller.

Gingrich and Ruddy said it would be a "mistake" for Trump to remove Mueller, although both said they see the probe as unnecessary.

Ruddy argued that Mueller should not have taken the job of special counsel because he was under consideration for the other position, and had had the private meeting with the president for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director appointment.

There is no reason to fire the independent head of the FBI investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, the Justice Department's number two said Tuesday, APA reports quoting Anadolu agency.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, weighing in Tuesday morning, advised the White House and Trump to let the special counsel's investigation continue, and await vindication. Ruddy, however, did not meet with the president that evening as their meeting was postponed, NBC News reported.

- Ahead of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions' testimony before the Senate intelligence committee Tuesday came another surprising revelation about the Trump administration. "I think the best thing to do is to let Robert Mueller do his job".

Mueller has wide authority to look into matters related to Russian election meddling, including collusion with Trump operatives, financial links between Trump and Russia, and Trump's possible efforts to obstruct the inquiry. "With respect to this subject, only the President or his attorneys are authorized to comment".

Sessions is testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday afternoon. "I don't think he's really pondering it", Rep. Adam Kinzinger said.

York quotes legal experts as saying Mueller should or shouldn't recuse himself, but I would argue it's less a legal question than a political one.

In 1973, there was such a firestorm following Nixon's move against Cox that the White House was forced to appoint another special prosecutor, Texas attorney Leon Jaworski.

Overall, it is probably safe to say that if Trump were to try to fire Mueller, let alone succeed, public confidence in the administration, and the USA government itself, would be very shaken. Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins, have backed Mueller and said there's no reason to fire him.

Rosenstein was asked about it and answered this way, "You have my assurance that Director Muller will have the full degree of independence that he needs to conduct the investigation".

In any case, pushing for Mueller's firing would be a drastic move, given the uproar that followed Trump's firing of then-FBI director James Comey last month.

Firebrand pundit Ann Coulter urged the government to fire Mueller.

Schiff told CNN's Anderson Cooper if Mueller was ousted, Congress would have to re-establish the Independent Counsel Act that expired following the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

A number of key Republicans have publicly advised Trump to keep Mueller.
