Trump's rollback of improved relations with Cuba helps no one

Donald Trump Demands Cuba Return Black Liberation Army Member Joanne Chesimard aka Assata Shakur

However, Mr. Trump's companies continue to do business with Russian Federation, and the USA continues to purchase millions of dollars of manufactured products from China while both Russian Federation and China have significantly greater human rights violations than Cuba.

The annual United Nations resolution condemning the USA embargo is deeply embarrassing, and Latin American countries are particularly sick of a half-century of a failed policy on Cuba - as if this president hasn't already done enough to insult our neighbors with his immigration rhetoric and policies. In an effort to apply pressure on Cuba's Communist government, Trump reverses some of President Obama's policy of opening ties with the country.

However, the Cuban government is not interested Trump and his demands.

- Trump's new restriction to only allow Americans to visit Cuba as part of a tour group received 44 percent support, while 32 percent opposed and 24 percent were not sure.

Many Radio Times listeners emailed and called the show to discuss their personal experiences of traveling to Cuba to learn about the Cuban people and culture.

The embargo against Cuba, which only Congress, not a president, can change, will remain in place, Trump said. But Obama changed all that. Travelers must keep full and accurate records of all transactions related to any authorized travel, and such records must be available for OFAC examination for a five-year period following the conclusion of travel.

"We have invested significant resources establishing a presence in Cuba, and with one hotel open and another in the pipeline we have just begun our work creating opportunity and a more vibrant tourism sector on the island", Marriott said in a statement.

The forthcoming regulations will be prospective and thus should not affect existing contracts and licenses, although OFAC retains the discretion to determine whether specific travel or activities should be limited or otherwise affected by the regulatory changes. The new policy will keep US companies from doing direct financial transactions with companies controlled by the Cuban military. "Reversing the policy will not only have a negative impact on tourism as folks are looking for new destinations to explore, but may also impact our foreign relations with Cuba".
