Ahead of Burhan's first anniv, security beefed up in Valley

Let's talk about Kashmir

Strict security arrangements have been made in Kashmir valley to ward off protests called by separatists to mark the anniversary of Burhan Wani's killing by Indian security forces on April 8 past year.

"If India fails to stop its atrocities in the occupied valley, a movement in support of Kashmiris and against such oppression is imminent on her soil as human nature can not accept such gross repressions", he added.

Late on Thursday, authorities ordered internet service providers to shut down data services in Kashmir, citing the risk of anti-India forces using social media to stir up unrest.

Witnesses and reports said hundreds of mourners are also visiting the grave of Burhan Wani to offer "fateh khwani" while locals have made special arrangements to provide food and other essentials to the visitors.

Srinagar/Jammu and Kashmir, July 8: On the death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken preventive measures in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to stop possible disturbances.

To avoid a repeat of the violence that rocked Kashmir after Wani was killed in a gunfight with security forces on July 8, 2016, security has been stepped across Jammu and Kashmir.

India on Saturday imposed a widespread curfew, cut off all internet services and deployed thousands of troops in Kashmir as the volatile Himalayan region marked the anniversary of a hugely popular rebel leader's death. The clashes have claimed a number of lives and injured hundreds of others.

"There won't be any blanket ban on mobile internet". Burhan was among the new wave of tech-savy militants who used to leverage social media to recruit and influence Kashmiri youth. The clashes with the security agencies led to the killing of almost 100 people from the state, so far, with many more sustaining serious eye injuries from pellet guns used by the government forces to quell the protests.

Pakistan had also condemned his death and termed it "deplorable".

India and Pakistan trade blame over deadly shelling on the anniversary of the death of rebel leader, Burhan Wani. The Indian government said that Islamabad was praising a terrorist belonging to a prohibited terrorist group.
