Ormond St angels: We will nurse Charlie in a hospice

Charlie Gard's parents given until noon tomorrow to agree arrangements for his death

According to the BBC, Charlie's parents have requested a week with their son before his life support was removed in the hospice, but they have been unable to find an intensive care specialist, which the hospital said was "essential" for Charlie's care.

Connie Yates and Chris Gard had asked to be allowed to to take their son home to die after ending their legal case.

But they ran into opposition from Great Ormond Street hospital in London, where Charlie is on life support, which said that because of the difficulties of providing invasive ventilation at home and the potential for problems, that would not be possible.

His parents would like up to a week to say goodbye to their little boy but his medics say death should come within a few hours.

The parents and hospital are still at odds, however, over the detail of Charlie's care plans and were given until Thursday to come to agreement. Every day, parents with a seriously ill child in intensive care units, emergency rooms and other pediatric care facilities make heart-rending decisions to withdraw life-sustaining technology.

Armstrong said Charlie's parents regarded that as only "a notch better" than the hospital.

The hospice's name and the time Charlie will be moved will not be made public, the judge ordered.

It was previously determined Charlie will be moved to a hospice and taken off life support "shortly after" if no agreement was met.

Doctors at Great Ormond Street said the therapy would not help.

A suitable ventilator would not fit through the parents' front door, the hospital said.

Charlie's parents abandoned their fight to allow him to be flown to the United States for experimental treatment on Monday, having determined it was no longer viable because of muscular atrophy he had suffered while the case went through the courts.

British courts and the European Court of Human Rights sided with the hospital in a string of hearings since March. They said they accept that his condition has deteriorated to the point where the experimental treatment would not work.

The judge said the name of the hospice and when Charlie was admitted would be private.

"As I disclosed in court on July 13, I have relinquished and have no financial interest in the treatment being developed for Charlie's condition", he continued. The London children's hospital opposed that, saying it would not help and would cause Charlie suffering.

His parents said they knew the chance of the experimental treatment working was slim, but they wanted to try anyway for Charlie's sake.
