USA and Russian Federation agree on cease-fire in Syria

3 2017 a giant portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared in a field in Castagnaro near the northern Italian city of Verona. Alongside was the caption

Tillerson was also present when Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit on Friday.

United States officials say the entire goal is to stop attacks against the rebels, while Russian Federation clearly wants the USA to stop attacking pro-government forces in the region.

United States allies Jordan and Israel, which share a border with the southern part of Syria, are also part of the agreement.

The deal is separate from "de-escalation zones" that were to be created under a deal brokered by Russia, Turkey and Iran earlier this year. The statement came as Trump prepared to meet with Putin and as the USA seeks to consolidate gains made against Daesh in recent weeks and prepare for a post-Daesh future.

That means that the Syrian autocrat would not be able to reoccupy the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group's stronghold in the city of Raqqa without some sort of agreement between all parties.

Before the Trump-Putin meeting, Tillerson signalled that Syria's civil war would be high on the agenda.

In March, Tillerson said the United States would set up "interim zones of stability" to help refugees return home in the next phase of the fight against Islamic State and al Qaeda in Syria and Iraq. The three countries said they would hold the next round of talks in Astana in the final week of August.

The Jordan side of the border according to the ceasefire will take place along a line of contact agreed upon between Syrian government forces and associated troops on one side and rebels on the other.

In a wide-ranging statement, the top U.S. diplomat said Russian Federation had a "special responsibility" to help create stability on the ground or risk hobbling the fight against the Islamic State group.

Unless there is a change in the delegations before the meeting, the USA side will go into the talks without more experienced officials, including national security adviser H.R. McMaster and National Security Council Russia specialist Fiona Hill, who was a Putin critic before entering the Trump administration. "Russia is neither capable nor willing to give us what we want in Syria", Lister said.

"The Syrian people should determine their country's political future through a political process", the official added.

Tillerson said all actors in the Syrian military theater must follow guidelines to avoid accidents in the air and on the ground.

The U.S. and Russian Federation have been backing opposing sides in Syria's war.

Israel has also struck Syrian military installations on several occasions in the past few weeks after shells landed into the Israeli-controlled side of the Golan Heights.
