ESPN calls Jemele Hill's Trump comments 'inappropriate'

In neither apologizing nor announcing a suspension - while simultaneously distancing itself - ESPN has managed to enrage just about everyone who has seen the "SportsCenter" anchor's Tuesday night rant about President Trump.

She also posted, "Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime". "His rise is the direct result of white supremacy".

Some say ESPN's recent staff cuts and drop in subscribers have to do with the network overloading on political issues.

In another tweet she called the President a bigot.

Play-by-play announcer Robert Lee, a Syracuse University alum, was moved from calling a Virginia football game earlier this month. "If there's ever a moment where we feel somebody's broken the law", she said, "particularly if they're the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, that's certainly something that should be looked at".

She shared an article from The Hill about Rock, which produced a long stream of comments.

Hill's tweetstorm on Monday was originally sparked when she condemned musician Kid Rock, who is flirting with running for the US Senate, for his use of the Confederate flag. After some consideration, the network has apparently made a decision to let her keep her job.

Is there a culture of fear at the network's Bristol headquarters?

After ESPN slapped Hill's wrist, support poured in from the sports world - Kaepernick, Dwyane Wade, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash among her defenders - and Hollywood. "That's where we need to be focused, not on outrageous statements like that one".

As you may have heard, ratings are noticeably down at the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

But so has the network going way left and political as a whole.

In June, ESPN released a study it commissioned that found the vast majority of viewers detected no bias in its content and 64 percent of those surveyed believed ESPN was striking the right mix of sports news and political issues. ESPN suspended Hill once before, in 2008, when she compared rooting for the Boston Celtics to having sympathy for Adolf Hitler in a column.

It appears that no major disciplinary action was taken as she anchored her scheduled SportsCenter broadcast.

The answer to that is a slam-dunk.
