United Nations Security Council condemns highly provocative North Korea missile launch

BREAKING: S. Korea Says an Unidentified Missile was Launched from N. Korean Capital

North Korea is closer than ever to its goal of building a military arsenal that can viably target both US troops in Asia and the American homeland. A new set of United Nations sanctions that even Trump declared a "small step", extensive talks and a rhetorical two-step that leaves them where they have been for years.

How has North Korea responded in the five weeks since President Donald Trump threated Pyongyang with "fire and fury?"

"Mattis and Onodera agreed that the North Korean provocation called for a strong demonstration of a unified front between the US, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, and agreed on the importance of robust trilateral defence cooperation between the three nations", he said.

The United Nations reacted strongly after North Korea tested a weaponanalysts say has the explosive power of 250 kilotons of TNT, passing the new sanctions on September 11.

As president-elect, he called the United Nations. "The United Nations, of course, holds tremendous potential to realize its founding ideals, but only if it's run more efficiently and effectively", McMaster said.

McMaster said North Korea's recent launch demonstrates that it is one of the world's most urgent and unsafe security problems, he added.

Mattis was at the U.S. Strategic Command headquarters in Nebraska at the time of the launch and said afterward the missile "was fired over Japan and put millions of Japanese in duck and cover".

The latest missile was launched from the Sunan district in Pyongyang and flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. And he comes out with US being very strong in the end.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said Friday that the missile was launched from Sunan, the site of Pyongyang's worldwide airport.

The emergency meeting of Security Council was convened at the request of Japan and the US.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for new sanctions "to be firmly imposed" in response to the latest North Korean missile test that violated Japanese airspace.

"President Moon ordered [the military] to closely analyze and increase the readiness posture against new types of threats from North Korea, such as EMP [electromagnetic pulse] and biochemical threats", presidential spokesman Park Su-hyun said. "China and Russian Federation must indicate their intolerance for these reckless missile launches by taking direct actions of their own", Tillerson said.

At the beginning of this year, North Korea's Kim announced plans to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile that could strike the USA mainland. Now, however, with North Korea perilously close to being able to directly threaten United States cities with nuclear obliteration, the worry for some is that Pyongyang could blackmail Washington into qualifying or limiting its support for its allies in the region. Dictator Kim Jong-un has repeatedly threatened to attack both Guam and Japan with missiles, possibly using nuclear warheads. And he wants to slash US financial contributions to the U.N. While U.S. officials say they prefer a diplomatic solution to this nuclear standoff, military force is also an option.
