President Trump to allow release of classified JFK assassination documents

President Trump says he will allow classified JFK documents to be made public

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he would allow the release of more than 3,000 previously classified files related to former President John F. Kennedy's assassination more than half a century ago. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) had been with accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald before the shooting, a suggestion that offended and angered Cruz, who called then candidate Trump a "pathological liar".

In the days leading up to Trump's tweet, a National Security Council official told The Washington Post that government agencies were urging the president not to release some of the documents.

In a statement on Twitter, Trump revealed he will be allowing the "long blocked" documents to be opened for the first time.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters told the magazine because some of the records within the thousands of pages of information were not created until decades later, they needed to be reviewed to guarantee there would be no "identifiable harm" to national security if they were to be made public.

The President, no stranger to conspiracy theories himeslf, may also have a personal interest in some of the released documents.

John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy, commonly referred to by his initials JFK, was an American statesman who served as the 35th President of the United States from January 1961 until his assassination on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.

Stone tweeted Saturday morning that he urged Trump to release the classified documents. In his tweet, Trump seemed to strongly imply he was going to release all the remaining documents.

The files reportedly may include a Central Intelligence Agency personality study of Lee Harvey Oswald, testimonies from former Central Intelligence Agency officers, letters from then-FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, as well as files on other suspected players in the assassination.

Trump can withhold the release of certain documents if he believes their release could pose harm to USA intelligence, law enforcement, the military or U.S. foreign relations.

That conclusion, however, has not satisfied many conspiracy theorists.
