Derrick Rose away from Cavs, evaluating career as injuries take mental toll

Rose's increasing frustration with injuries is causing him to consider his desire to continue playing in the league, sources said.

"He's exhausted of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally", a source told ESPN. This is huge news from the Cavs, as the team is struggling to find an identity during the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season.

Rose, the 2011 league MVP, is averaging 14.3 points on 47 percent shooting (23.1 percent from 3), 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists this season.

Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue says Rose will miss at least two weeks over his ankle injury.

"Per Wojnarowski, a Cavaliers source said, "[Rose is] exhausted of being hurt, and it's taking a toll on him mentally". A team spokesman said Friday that Rose has been excused since Wednesday and there is no timetable for his return.

The Cavaliers won six straight games despite not having Rose heading into their home game against Charlotte on November 24. The Rose acquisition was meant to help secure a second unit that struggled mightily last season.

Because of this injury, he missed an entire 2012-13 season.

The Cavaliers signed Rose as a free agent this summer, and he was expected to start in place of Isaiah Thomas, whose hip injury is expected to keep him off the floor until late December or early January.

Rose has played in just seven games this season and has been slowed by a left ankle injury sustained on October 20 in Milwaukee.

The point guard left the Knicks without explanation for a time a year ago over what he called a "family issue" (he was fined after apologizing for his absence).
