Auto park fire at Liverpool's Echo Arena has destroyed all vehicles

Horse show evacuated after 'major fire at car park'

In the clip, you see the third floor of the auto park, in Kings Dock, Liverpool, completely engulfed with flames as thick, dark smoke fills the air.

There was an global horse show scheduled to take place at the Liverpool Echo Arena, next to the auto park, which was cancelled. A spokesman said they were thought to be the only animals in the auto park at the time.

Windows and fuel tanks were apparently heard to be exploding regularly. It was like a gun shot each time.

The 43-year-old, from High Hesket, was one of six who had travelled down in two cars to the show. "We just grabbed the keys and ran". "We were in our minibus and one of the kids shouted, 'there's a fire!'" It was all insignificant as long as everyone was OK and we could get the horses out.

"The smoke was really thick and black, and as the night went on the flames just kept getting bigger".

Mrs Wright said the cars were "just popping every couple of seconds".

"It was really scary, with the sound of sirens everywhere, the noise and the smell". He said, 'What level is your auto on?' We said six.

"I am very proud of our own teams who pulled together in the most demanding of circumstances, and managed to quickly and calmly evacuate all horses from the venue in a safe and controlled manner. It could have been so much worse".

The Liverpool International Horse Show was held at the arena, and it was to conclude with the Sunday show that would have hosted 4,000 guests.

"All people and horses are safe and secure, and show organisers have thanked spectators, riders and support teams for their understanding and co-operation during this ongoing situation".

"The people of Liverpool never let us down with their generosity and everyone has now been accommodated or given a lift", Anderson said.

Residents living in apartments nearby and tourists staying in hotels were also forced to evacuate, as 12 fire engines and aerial ladders were scrambled to the scene at around 4.42pm on New Year's Eve.
