Syria Threatens to Fire Missiles at Israel's Ben Gurion Airport

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gestures as he speaks the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos Switzerland

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Russian Federation on Monday for talks focused on Syria, warning that Israel will not accept Iran's growing military presence there and in neighboring Lebanon. The Israeli leader also accused Iran of trying to "turn Lebanon into one giant missile site".

Throughout its military campaign in Syria, however, Russian Federation has maintained good ties with Israel, with the two countries' air forces establishing close communications to avoid clashes when Israel would bomb weapons convoys to Hezbollah or other targets in Syria.

Israel's chief military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis posted a rare op-ed on Sunday in several Arabic-language websites, warning Lebanon of Iran's entrenchment.

"T$3 he threat of precision weapons against Israel is a serious threat that we are not willing to accept and if we have to act, we will act", Netanyahu said, without going into detail.

He warned that due to the failings of its authorities, Lebanon has turned into one large missile factory.

Speaking at his weekly cabinet session in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said that during his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the Davos Economic Forum last Thursday, they "discussed the need to confront the Iranian aggression in the region and to face all of Iran's attempts to possess nuclear arms through the failed Nuclear deal". Following the meeting Netanyahu had confirmed that Israel's security is benefitted by the Putin's approach.

Haaretz reported that Netanyahu and Putin were expected to discuss Israel's opposition to any arrangement that would let Iranian forces remain on Syria's territory once the war is over, as well as the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

Netanyahu stated that Iran is to blame for attempting to change the status quo both in Syria and Lebanon.

The pair watched a presentation of the upcoming film "Sobibor" about the only successful uprising in a Nazi death camp and visited the Museum's exhibition.

The visit has been confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office. "That is our mission also today - that is what I want to talk to you about: our joint efforts to advance security and stability in our regions, and of course on the mutual cooperation between us, between Russian Federation and Israel". Netanyahu said he will pass it on to Yad Vashem.

As a gift, the Russian president handed him an original letter that Oskar Schindler sent to his wife, Netanyahu said.
