Trump doubles down on Democrat taunting following shutdown deal

This woman is a "Dreamer" with DACA status.

Dr. Soto goes on to argue that $20 billion for the wall is nothing compared to the $400 billion that could be lost by ending DACA.

Democrats have been spearheading an effort to protect about 700,000 young Dreamers after Trump announced in September the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program instituted by his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama.

The deadline for action set by the President on DACA is March 5. These persons were brought to the United States as children by undocumented parents or family members. To make things worse, Trump often contradicts his own administration on policy when he takes to Twitter early in the morning. These "Dreamers" have lived in this country for nearly their entire lives. "That isn't leadership, and it's doing nothing to help lift up Americans, who deserve a functioning government". Their dominant language is English, and their customs and experiences are very American.

The last USA government shutdown occurred in 2013 when Republicans used it as a means to garner concessions on U.S. debt and funding for former President Barack Obama's landmark healthcare legislation, popularly called Obamacare.

The program now protects about 700,000 people, mostly Hispanic young adults, from deportation and provides them work permits.

President Trump announced previous year the program will end, meaning expired DACA permits are no longer renewable after March 5.

Advocates in this nation have urged the passage of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM) Act to provide a pathway to citizenship for the DACA youth.

Late Tuesday, Trump delivered a direct message to Schumer, saying there will be no agreement protecting DREAMers without funding for his promised border wall.

Another victory Republican leaders can celebrate is that, for three days, they managed to keep Trump from tweeting or making provocative statements that risked inflaming Democrats and killing the deal. This ruling will certainly be appealed.

Making negotiations somewhat more hard is that it's not clear exactly what the President would accept on illegal immigrant "Dreamers" - it was described Tuesday only as a "permanent solution" to DACA - it's not clear if that means citizenship, a permanent legal status, or a temporary one. At midnight on January 20, the United States government was shut down since there was no agreement by the House, Senate and President on the passage of a budget bill that was tied to the future of DACA.

This isn't to say the deterioration of negotiations about dreamers can all be traced back to Schumer's wall-no-wall 180. They may not be able to work or to attend school.

Now the future of DACA relies on a promise from McConnell to take it up in the next three weeks, now that the rest of the budget deal has been approved. Government estimates are that it could cost more than $21 billion.

We should be encouraging these "Dreamers", not creating obstacles for their future. "That allows them to legally expect their parents to move to the head of the line to be given legal documentation to stay in the United States".

Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, a leading advocate for immigrants, countered that the only way to build consensus on Capitol Hill is to start with Democrats and then add in whatever Republicans they can.

That gives Congress plenty of time to enact a constitutional replacement for DACA.
