Cruising for a Bruising: WATCH Passengers Let Fists Fly on Aussie Ship

The Carnival Legend cruise ship has been on a 10-day tour of the South Pacific

Passengers say a brawl that erupted around 12:45am Friday-resulting in an unexpected stop and the removal of 23 family members-was the culmination of days of violence that left as many as 30 people injured aboard the "cruise from hell", per 3AW.

His 20-year-old son said "a lot of people are bleeding, a lot of people down".

We're not going to post the video or any footage of these violent brawls on our site, if Cruise Hive readers want to they can view one of the videos here.

"There's people walking around with cut heads and hands", she said.

Carnival Cruise Line says they called police to "remove a family group of passengers".

While it is unclear how the mid-sea squabble started, footage obtained by Australian radio station 3AWRadio shows security personnel scrambling to break up a crowd of people who were throwing punches and tackling passengers to the ground. "At 7am today, police from the Marine Area Command were advised of people fighting on-board a cruise ship".

One horrified holidaymaker told Nine News they are genuinely frightened of the offending guests and are hesitant to leave the safety of their room.

The Carnival Legend cruise ship is now believed to have docked in Eden, north of the NSW-Victoria boarder.

Carnival's Legend cruise ship was a floating nightmare, passengers reported.

Several guards and at least one staff member can be seen kicking a passenger while he is on the ground.

'This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behaviour that affects the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests.

Carnival issued a statement saying their security staff have taken action in relation to a "small group of disruptive guests who have been involved in altercations on board".

"Disembarking a family from a cruise in an unprecedented incident, it is always our last resort and therefore we felt it was the best course of action for the safety and security of our guests and crew", She said.

The ship is now back on its way to Melbourne and Ms Vandekreeke said that the measures taken by staff on board would allow fellow cruise guests to enjoy the remaining stages of their holiday.
