MILITARY TO BORDER: Trump to DEPLOY US TROOPS to Protect Southern Border

US President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump stepped up his tough talk on immigration on Tuesday, saying he wants to deploy US military forces to stop illegal immigrants at the border with Mexico until a long-promised wall is completed and "proper security" is in place. "Until we can have a wall and proper security, we're going to be guarding our border with the military", he said, calling the measure a "big step".

Despite his claim on Tuesday that he is taking an nearly unprecedented step, Donald Trump is not the first commander in chief to deploy troops to the US-Mexico border.

"We can not have people flowing into our country illegally, disappearing, and by the way never showing up for court", the president said during a meeting with the president's of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

At the meeting on Tuesday, Trump said that US immigration laws were being "laughed at" by other countries, promising to change them. Trump has called on Republican lawmakers to immediately pass a border bill using the "Nuclear Option if necessary" to muscle it through.

The US president's rekindled anger over immigration was apparently sparked over the weekend by media reports on the migrants heading across Mexico.

"The United States is not going to militarize the southern border". Trump tweeted at daybreak Tuesday.

"Mexico & Canada have tough immigration laws, whereas ours are an Obama joke. Act now Congress, our country is being stolen!"

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto insisted that despite disagreements over illegal immigration, the NAFTA trade talks should go on. "We really haven't done that before, or certainly not very much before", he continued.

The president fired off several tweets on Tuesday about the caravan march toward the "Weak Laws" border of Mexico.

They began their trek March 25 from the southern Mexican state of Chiapas with the aim of reaching the USA border and applying for asylum.

Meanwhile, in a statement late Monday, the Mexican government said about 400 members of the caravan had already been sent back to their home countries. Mexico has said such "caravans" of mostly Central Americans, including many escaping violence in Honduras, have occurred since 2010.

Staffers with Trump over the holiday included policy adviser Stephen Miller, one of the chief architects of the administration's anti-immigration policies, but not his chief of staff John Kelly or his elder daughter, Ivanka, both considered more moderate influences. Buzzfeed, which first reported on the caravan, said that Mexican officials had not yet attempted to stop the flow.

"The authorities want us to leave their cities", Rodrigo Abeja told Reuters.

Despite the president's attack, Pueblo Sin Fronteras hopes the publicity will help the cause. After failing to reach an agreement with congressional Democrats to extend long-term protections against deportation for young immigrants brought to the U.S.as children, Trump has repeatedly accused Democrats of not wanting to make a deal and has suggested on Twitter this week that a future deal is "dead". "It's like we have no border". It is some 450 miles from the closest Central American country, Guatemala.
