Arsene Wenger Gets Great Guard of Honour Before Final Home Game

No fairytale for Wenger Twitter divided as Arsenal manager’s last European game ends in 1-0 loss

Arsene Wenger has revealed a number of things he will miss about the Arsenal job as he prepares to take charge of his final home match on Sunday.

Tributes were paid to the outgoing Frenchman throughout Sunday's Premier League thrashing of Burnley, starting with an appreciative guard of honour from both sets of players and ending with speeches and presentations on the pitch. "He has been inspirational", the 22-year-old said.

Arsenal will finish this season in sixth, as low as they ever have in Wenger's reign, and defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals means for a second straight season Wenger has failed to qualify Arsenal for the Champions League.

Former Arsenal boss Bruce Rioch has spoken of the negativity surrounding the club before Arsene Wenger took over, with one player nearly committing suicide.

It was Wenger's 606th home game in charge of the Gunners, a run which began on October 19, 1996 with a goalless draw against Coventry at Highbury, a decade before the Gunners moved to their current home.

Arsene Wenger is adamant he is leaving Arsenal in a stable financial position to be able to challenge for the English Premier League title.

"He changed the face of football in this country", Wilson said.

Wenger still has a couple of Arsenal games left to play mind you - visiting Leicester in midweek before travelling to Huddersfield on the final day of the season. The counsellors told me, "There are far greater problems at this club than you can even imagine"'.

Calling the Emirates "this theatre of dreams", Wenger added: "I will miss you".

"But I still think Arsenal will come back and compete for the championship".

They sit just three points ahead of the season's surprise package in Burnley and Sean Dyche's men will be relishing the chance to upset yet another of the so-called big boys. I hope to see you soon.

Chants of "there is only one Arsene Wenger" rang around the 60,000 capacity stadium, which was far fuller than home league games in recent months as fans stayed away in protest at a poor season on the field.
