US, Iran talk tough over fate of nuclear deal

We sat out Western sanctions, so help us in Mideast: Israel tells Russia

The Europeans say this is already implicit in the original deal.

After their meeting, Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned Tehran may withdraw from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) if President Donald Trump scraps the Iran nuclear deal. Zarif says if there were a new deal, concessions would come from Iran "and not the West".

Official Berlin has urged trump to save the current agreement with Iran, and UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres said that there was a risk of war if the global agreement will not be saved. In the view of global monitors, foreign governments and even the State Department, Iran is complying with the terms of the agreement, and there is no better option on the table to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

"Israel does not intend to interfere in Syria's internal affairs; [Syrian] President Bashar al-Assad would do well not to work against us", the hardline defense minister was quoted as saying. European allies France, the United Kingdom and Germany meanwhile have agreed that pursuing the current nuclear deal with Iran is the best way to stop it developing nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu presents material on Iran's purported nuclear program on April 30.

According to the text of the deal, Iran stated that if sanctions were reinstated it "will treat that as grounds to cease performing its commitments under this JCPOA in whole or in part".

In signing the deal, Iran also agreed to comprehensive monitoring of its nuclear facilities and related sites by the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency. We should be most pleased if Trump acts against his own statements and stays the course in Syria; that is, keeps American troops there, keeps the military pressure on Assad regardless of the Russian and Iranian presence in Syria, and clearly states that a permanent Iranian military base in Syria is unacceptable to the US. But Iran has also discussed salvaging the deal.

Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believe they fueled the argument for a United States withdrawal this week after Israel unveiled a cache of Iran's nuclear-weapons files, obtained in a Mossad raid in Tehran earlier this year. The two messages add up to one: Israel is not going away. "It should also encourage Iran and Saudi Arabia to cooperate to resolve regional crises, starting with those in Syria and Yemen".

The United States likely persuaded Israel into doctoring and framing intelligence Iraq War-style in a bid to undermine the Iran nuclear accord and pave the road for a USA invasion, analysts told Sputnik.

As Iran's all-powerful leader, Khamenei has the final word on all policy matters, foreign and domestic, including on the nuclear deal. Former president Barack Obama knew that he would not get the consent from 67 senators so he passed the deal as an "executive agreement".

Zarif accused the United States of violating the deal, particularly by "bullying" others to prevent them from doing business with Iran. "Even Secretary Pompeo admitted in his confirmation hearing that Iran was complying with the deal".
