EPA chief's top legal counsel latest senior aide to leave

Pruitt had aide look into Chick-fil-A franchise opportunity for his wife report

Sarah Greenwalt, who served as Scott Pruitt's top attorney in both Oklahoma and at the Environmental Protection Agency, has resigned from the EPA and will return to Oklahoma.

President Donald Trump signaled today he is still standing by his embattled EPA chief, even as Pruitt's support among other Republicans has started to erode. "Administrator Pruitt has certainly done just that", the letter adds.

"There's significant changes happening not only at the EPA but across the administration and it's needed", Pruitt told a reporter from Nextstar TV in Washington. Lincoln Ferguson, a former press secretary for Pruitt in Oklahoma, remains with the EPA's public affairs office.

Democratic Sens. Tom Udall of New Mexico, Tom Carper of DE and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island asked EPA inspector general Arthur Elkins on Thursday to investigate whether Pruitt is illegally using his EPA post to drum up business deals for his family. "And you know, somebody has to say that about you a little bit", Mr. Trump told him Wednesday during a briefing on the coming hurricane season.

And that fact should mean that Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt should be headed for the exit sooner rather than later. "I'm not saying that he's blameless, but we'll see what happens".

The EPA inspector normal is already trying into the usage of subordinates' time on the company, in addition to different moral questions together with wage will increase for aides, reassignment of employees who raised questions on spending and Pruitt's dwelling association in a Capitol Hill townhouse linked to lobbyists.

Federal law says that government officials can't use their public office for personal gain or to benefit family members.

Whitehouse and Carper also asked Elkins to examine whether the EPA has been holding back entries from Pruitt's work calendar and other documents requested by Congress or by organizations invoking the Freedom of Information Act.

Minutes ago a Fox Business D.C. correspondent posted video (below) of her asking the EPA chief about reports he tried to get a Chick-fil-A franchise for his spouse.

"Look, my wife is an entrepreneur herself, I love, she loves, we love Chick-fil-A as a franchise of faith and it's one of the best in the country and that's something we were very excited about and we need more of them in Tulsa and we need more of them across the country", Pruitt said by way of explanation on Thursday.
