Photographer details the emotional moment that created border photo of crying toddler

The little girl with her mother

Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer John Moore from Getty Images snapped the image, which has become the symbol of the family separation crisis playing out on America's southern border.

According to Time, Moore had said,"This one was tough for me".

" "Welcome to America" where print publications are losing so much revenue, they have to put photoshopped liberal propaganda on covers", wrote conservative commentator Britt McHenry.

"It's hard as a father to see that, but I know now that they are not in danger", he added.

"I had to stop and take deep breaths", Moore said.

Further isolating Trump's position, his wife, Melania, travelled to a detention facility in Texas on Thursday in a surprise trip to show her concern for children who have been separated from their families.

Time published the cover along with a cover story with the headline, "A Reckoning After Trump's Border Separation Policy: What Kind of Country Are We?".

Under a moonless sky, a group of Central American asylum seekers is rafted across the Rio Grande from Mexico into the US on June 12 in McAllen, Texas.

Central American asylum seekers wait for transport while being detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents near the U.S. -Mexico border on June 12 in McAllen. "All I wanted to do was pick her up, but I couldn't".

Dozens of newspapers and magazines around the globe published the picture, swelling the tide of outrage that pushed Trump to back down Wednesday and say families would no longer be separated.

He said that he's seen similar interactions between immigrants and border agents before, but the difference with this instance was that it happened with the backdrop of the recent zero-tolerance policy being enforced by the Trump administration. TIME's editors said they chose the image because it was so powerful. "But I couldn't." Moore said he was able to speak to the mother briefly and learned that the little girl was a 2-year-old from Honduras.

In a recent six-week period there were almost 2,000 family separations following a crackdown on illegal border crossings. Something tells us that he won't be as fond of this latest real cover story.
